Optional Life and AD&D Insurance Overview
Consider purchasing optional life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance through the CUPE EWBT benefits plan, for added peace of mind for you and those you care about in the event of death or permanent accidental injury.

Optional Life Insurance for You or Your Spouse
- Premiums are based on gender, age, and smoking status, and are 100% member-paid.
- Coverage is available in units of $10,000, up to a maximum of $300,000 per person.
- Coverage requires a medical application and Canada Life’s approval
- Death due to suicide is excluded in the first 2 years of initial or increased coverage.

Optional Life Insurance for Your Dependent Children
- Premiums are 100% member-paid.
- Coverage is available in units of $5,000, up to a maximum of $25,000 per child.
- Coverage does not require medical underwriting.
Optional AD&D Insurance for You or Your Spouse
- Premiums are 100% member-paid.
- Coverage is available in units of $10,000, up to a maximum of $300,000 per person.
- Coverage does not require medical underwriting.
Life Waiver
Note that optional life and AD&D insurance purchased through the CUPE EWBT plan includes a “life waiver” (also called a “waiver of premium” or “disability waiver”) — meaning that premiums for optional life and AD&D insurance will be waived if you become disabled (as defined in the Benefits Booklet).
